ABSTRACT

Global warming refers to the changes that occur in the earth’s atmosphere as a result of the increase in the levels of several atmospheric gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), Nitrogen oxide (NO2), Methane (CH4), Ozone (O3), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCS), water vapour (H2O) and airborne particles.  When these gases are emitted into the atmosphere, they form a shield around the earth’s atmosphere thus preventing the infra-red waves from the earth to escape into the troposphere causing global warming. The gases cause a greenhouse effect by forming a poor layer of heat transfer to the atmosphere. Global warming has both challenges and opportunities in the implementation of the school programmes in Kenya.  In this study, literature on global warming and how it affects school programmes in Kenya was reviewed and recommendations on how the government and other educational stakeholders could tackle the challenges and take due advantage of enormous opportunities of global warming are discussed.  We conclude that global warming has both positive and negative impacts on the management of school programmes in Kenya.
